If you have a Samsung built-in ice maker in your fridge that is more than 2-3 years old, then you have (or will have) a problem and have to replace it. There is no permanent "fix" as a replacement ice maker will stop making ice in the future due to a poor design by Samsung, and any reputable appliance tech will tell you that. This ice maker was as advertised and started making ice the same day. The build quality seems comparable to the OEM with the only difference I can see is that there is no reset button on this unit. You have to hope you've installed everything correctly, as the only way to know you have power and it's working is waiting for the ice. I went on-line and followed a video install as there are no installation instructions that comes with this unit. There are a couple of critical steps to follow in removing your old ice maker, with one being to make sure you defrost before trying to remove. I tried to remove the old unit without defrosting and wasted a lot of time. To help prolong the life of your replacement, seal all openings with special tape or sealant. If you have decent handyperson skills it should not be a problem to install this ice maker. UPDATE! Just as the OEM icemaker, this unit froze and stopped making ice after 7 months. Local appliance repair shops say this will happen with all Samsung icemakers in this manufacture date range. I guess I'll keep buying and installing icemakers until it's just too much and then move on to another brand.
